How many new ideas never see the light of day or receive the attention they deserve because of our current scientific publishing system?

Can people outside of academia make valuable contributions if given the proper platform and support?

Can we create new organizational structures that promote greater creativity and diversity of thought in science?

Seeds of Science (the organization) aims to provide some initial answers to these questions. Our “research” consists of building platforms and communities that complement and extend the current scientific ecosystem. Our first “experiment”, the journal Seeds of Science, is an attempt to overcome many of the issues that plague scientific writing and publishing by subverting some of the more restrictive norms and conventions — peer review is fast and democratic (no “gatekeeping” by a small group of editors or months-long waits for decisions), speculation is not only allowed but encouraged, and authors are free to write in whatever style or format best suits their ideas (as long as the ideas are original, scientifically useful, and clearly expressed). Read The Seeds of Science Manifesto to learn more about how our model addresses some of the problems in academic scientific publishing.

Seeds of Science is founded by Dr. Dario Krpan (assistant professor of psychology at the London School of Economics), Dr. Sergey Samsonau (AI technical lead at NYU) and Roger’s Bacon (Writing at Secretorum). Seeds of Science is based out of New York City. Please contact us at Info@TheSeedsofScience.org if you have questions or would like to get involved.
